Intensive Therapy Programs (PT/OT)

Our Intensive Therapy programs consist of physical therapy, occupational therapy, and/or speech therapy programs based on your child's needs.

The program is designed for children with developmental disorders, primarily Cerebral Palsy, and typically consists of 3 hours of Physical Therapy and 1 hour of Occupational Therapy each day, 5 days a week for 2 or 3 weeks.  We will gladly discuss your child's needs with you and develop a program that works best for your child.

Each child is provided with an individualized home exercise program with pictures of the child performing their exercises.  Suit therapy utilizing the TheraSuitTM, developed by Polish Physical Therapists Izabela and Richard Koscielney, is utilized to provide improved alignment and resistance to strengthen musicles. Please visit for further information regarding the TheraSuitTM and Universal Exercise Unit.

Universal Exercise Unit
Suit Therapy utilizing the Therasuit

Each daily session begins with a warm up including moist heat, massage, range of motion and stretching. The session then progresses to utilizing  the Universal Exercise Unit for strengthening and flexibility. Using a system of pulleys and weights, active movement is facilitated with and without resistance. The "spider cage" is then utilized for balance, proprioception, coordination and vestibular training.  We have two Partial Weight Bearing Lite Gait Systems for your child to use over our treadmills.  Children also utilize our well equipped sensory gym with mulitple suspension systems.

Parents often wonder how frequently should their children attend an Intensive Therapy Session.  Children develop skills during an Intensive Therapy Program which typically may take them 6 months to achieve. Progress occurs quickly during these sessions.  We recommend that your child see their primary therapist at least once per week after an Intensive Session to solidify their new skills. Twice per year is a general recommendation but this is also influenced by other factors.  During a child's growing and developing years they may seem to plateau with their skills, which is one indication that it is time for an Intensive Session.  Another indication is after recieving Botox/Phenol Block injections.  Ideally, you would like to schedule a session two weeks after these types of procedures.  If your child is having Orthopedic surgery or Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy their sessions should be scheduled 4-6 months after surgery to maximize their recovery. Discuss this with your child's surgeon and contact our office to reserve their session prior to surgery.
